THE MAIN TYPES
Parrots, also known as psittacines, are birds of - we believe - about 372 species in 86 genera that make up the order Psittaciformes. The order is subdivided in three families: the Psittacidae or 'true' parrots, the Cacatuidae (cockatoos) and the rare Strigopidae (New Zealand parrots).
